Study of Jane Morris for the Virgin in 'The Seed of David', Dante Gabriel Rossetti 

In the watercolour version of the Nativity, the Virgin Mary resembles Elizabeth Siddal, who died in 1861. Ruth Herbert was the first model for the Virgin in the oil, but then Rossetti substituted the face of Jane Morris, wife of his friend William Morris.
