The Hammersmith Socialist Society (including Henry Halliday Sparling, William Morris and May Morris)
The Hammersmith Socialist Society (including Henry Halliday Sparling, William Morris and May Morris)by Sir Emery Walker12 x 10 inch glass plate negative, circa 1891-1892
This is a v interesting photo. I have one that is similar-ish of the HSL taken (i think)in 1885 which you can find on my website www.martin-stott.com Ive been trying to find out both who is it - and seem to be making progress on that - and who took it. It is generally attributed to Fredrick Hollyer - tho i personally think its Emery Walker. So im particularly interested that you have a definite attribution to Walker for this pic. How do you come to that? You can contact me thru my website. Inicentally are you a member of the William Morris Society? regards, martin stott

No, I ought to join the society, though my main interests are in Jane and the children.
WMS are having a rather belated 150th exhibition on May next year and Jan Marsh is doing a lecture -in Feb 2013 from memory. The programme is on the WMS website.
ReplyDeleteThanks Martin for the heads up though I can only see events up to the end of 2012 on the web site.
